Laurie Kan
Laurie Kan is the founder of ON Capital, a private equity firm that specializes in investing in China since 2004. With 3 funds under management, the last one being a $300m fund, ON Capital is active in the mid-market of China in general and in the IT and TMT sectors of China in particular. ON Capital's performance since inception has been very constant and stable, averaging annual net returns of 50%.
Prior to founding ON Capital, Laurie had been working in the VC/PE industries since 1997. In 2000, with the support or H&Q Asia Pacific and of JH Whitney, he established the i100 Corporation and listed it on the HKSE. The company acted as an incubator and invested in a number of wireless and telecom related VAS and software start-¬-ups in Hong Kong and China.
From 1997 to 2000, Laurie founded PointCast Asia which introduced news casting services to Asia; he was also the COO of China Internet Corporation (now Chinadotcom); he did the turn around of Timeless Software which later became the first company listed on the Hong Kong GEM; he also established sina.com in Hong Kong which became the largest Chinese language infotainment web portal in the world.
Having graduated from the Hong Kong Baptist College in Business Management and completed the Stanford Graduate School of Business Executive Program, Laurie spent the earlier years of his career successively as Product Marketing Manager at Apple Computers, as Area Sales Manager at Compaq Computers and as Country Manager of Microsoft from 1991 to 1997. He actually established the HK office for Microsoft in 1991.
